The Lens You’re Looking Through

Dr. Jacqueline on The Lens You’re Looking Through

Another lens. Another perspective. A refreshing outlook on life.

Don’t let the cares of the world get the best of you. Instead, learn to …Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise (Philippians 4:8). “Lock in” on these things. You’re the one who is in control of what you think about. What you ruminate on is your decision. It’s possible to remain undisturbed – despite what’s going on – keeping your thoughts locked in on what is true, pure, lovely, excellent and worthy of praise.

If this seems unrealistic to you, trust me, it’s not. I do it! It simply takes a renewing of your mind.

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think (Romans 12:2).

Now, what I’m talking about here is deeper than positive thinking and being optimistic (though this can be beneficial as well).

If you’ve ever engaged with someone who has fixed their thoughts on things that are true and pure and right and lovely and praiseworthy and of good report, and one who reads the Bible (and does what it says), and one who chooses to do life with God, you’ll notice that this person is steady: consistent, unchanging, immovable, constant in their emotions even when it seems as if they are in the worst of situations. Having exchanged fear for a firm foundation (the Rock: Jesus Christ), what you then may see about this person as a result, is positivity and an optimism – or simply one free from worry. God is keeping this person in perfect peace. This person is walking with God, and continually passing up opportunities to become overwhelmed, knowing that God said, “I will not, I will not cease to sustain and uphold you. I will not, I will not, I will not let you down” (Hebrews 13:5, Joshua 1:5, 9).

The choice is yours. Choose the lens that leads to life and peace, rather than navigating life on your own and continually searching for substitutes to help you feel…calm. Choose Him. He is the only true and lasting way.
